The first of three books in The Spanish Gatekeeper
series, Empire of the Ulfair introduces Peter
de Soto, an English schoolboy, and his cousin, Bonifacia
Espasande. The summer of 1900, Peter vacations at his aunt’s
home in northern Spain. A family heirloom steeped in
Galician folklore provides the key to unlocking a backyard
mystery. In an apparent case of mistaken identity Peter and
his cousin are lured to a far-off world inhabited by
fairytale creatures and wolf-like Ulfair. Caught in a
shattering civil war, the pair are driven apart and forced
to travel starkly different roads that may never again
intersect. What ensues are entwined tales of adventure,
romance, ignominy, and courage, flush with creatures both
familiar and unfamiliar.
A captivating and inventive story that plays on history
and is written in the best traditions of Wells, Verne and
Rider Haggard. This is old-school science fiction fantasy
crafted with all the advantages of 21st century perspective.

The
second book in The Spanish Gatekeeper series, Gwellem’s Hitch picks up the story of cousins Peter and
Bonifacia, marooned on a distant planet. Peter has two
overriding objectives—to reunite with Bonifacia who has been
torn from his side and to find the “wizard” Thomajun, who is
said to hold the key to the portal home. Peter’s mistaken
identity has landed him responsibility for the princess
royal—last of the Ulfair royal house—and obliged him to make
the difficult trek to Bakus Sura before he can even hope to
achieve his aims. Likewise, Bonifacia wants to get home, but
her attempt has cost the freedom of her friend Gemesh, an
acquisitive Gno’man, and jeopardized the life of the young akritar, Henrik, who has received a virtual death sentence
at the hands of the seafaring Weshnut.

Five
years have elapsed since Bonifacia and Peter were marooned
on TNX-37B. Unable to locate his beloved cousin or the
“wizard” Thomajun, Peter carves out a new life for himself
in the military service of Bakus Sura. Bonifacia, meanwhile,
has embraced the rough life of a seafaring Weshnut and is
flourishing as a “Samkan Loyalist.” The foundations of
Gwellem civilization are weakened by the collapse of the
Empire and the Weshnut dominion. It is an unexpected
opportunity for the Og’yre queen to reassert her power. Once
again, combined Og’yre and Madærgal armies are on the march!
Ósir technology may offer the only real hope for turning the tide. The search for Thomajun is renewed. At long
last, a doorway back to Earth beckons, but at what cost?
